What’s It About?
Phronsie is a successful New York City woman. She doesn’t need a man, but she wants one and the entire package which comes wrapped up in that bow. But after 40+ failed swipe-right dates, she’s back at the bar that essentially has her name etched in it along with her best friend. That’s when he tells her his solution to their shared dating woes: to marry each other.
The part of her that is like her hardworking, practical father (who disapproved of her leaving the family farm) knows this should be a simple yes. They’ve been BFFs since they were five, they get eath other, plus they want the same things in their future. But the part of her that’s like her free-spirted mother (who abandoned their relationship when she was a teen causing all kinds of other issues) is aching for the smallish thing that’s missing: a magical spark.
As she tries to make the right decision with her friendship, Phronsie struggles to reconcile the strained relationships with her father, mother, and the stepmother who basically raised her. Oh yea, and of course there’s this sweet, corky guy who’s love of gnomes makes her question if she’s getting this whole idea of what’s next wrong.
Will a shared vision with her BFF prove to be more important than waiting for the spark that begins something magical?
My Thoughts
This is told by our star, Phronsie, at two different times in her life, making this part coming of age story and part mid-adult. While one of the central themes is love and marriage, this isn’t a romance novel. It’s a character driven evolution of her relationships with her family and herself. It’s done with some seriousness and just enough humor that keeps the overall story light.
Who Is This Book For
